Harder sure his side will improve

17:00 - 21-August-2008

SIMON Harder is adamant a win is just around the corner for his Elmore side after seeing them crash out of the FA Cup at the weekend.

The Eagles were hammered 4-0 by Peninsula League Premier Division club Bodmin Town on Saturday, as they conceded their 13th goal of the season in only three games.

The Elmore boss also faces the possibility of having to do without forward Kevin Mills, who was sent off for retaliation against Bodmin.

But Harder says he is not worrying about the early season scores as he plots the course his team will take in the season ahead.

"It won't be long before we get a result," Harder said.

"It will sound strange, but on the whole we've been playing well and, if we can continue doing the stuff we're doing right, then soon enough we'll get the benefits of that.

"It's the same at any level of football, as soon as you pick up a few results it gives you the confidence.

"Your play becomes tighter and more accurate and suddenly it's much easier to pick up points.

"There's not much we are going to change at the moment because we think that if we can keep going and keep our heads up we'll pick up some favourable results in the next few weeks."

One area Harder admits he needs to strengthen is up front, as his side have netted only one goal so far this term.

After the chief of the Horsdon Park club missed out on a number of his targets over the summer, he knows that it will be a challenge filling the position now that the new season has begun.

"I've said for a while that we're in need of a striker and that hasn't changed," he said.

"We're lacking something up front and if we could fill that position then it would definitely stand us in better stead for this season.

"It's a tough league and you need players who are going to be able to put the ball in the back of the net for you.

"But we'll have to make do for now and hope that we can get a little bit more luck in front of goal in the coming weeks."

The Eagles now have a week to recover, as their game against Gillingham Town, scheduled for tonight, has been postponed as Town have an FA Cup replay at Saltash United.

And Harder is planning to work his side hard before next Saturday's fixture at home to Clevedon United.

He added: "We're going to be down the gym this week doing a bit of fitness training.
